The Holy Martyr Phocas, the Gardener

$0.99

A gardener in the city of Sinope, on the southern shore of the Black Sea, Phocas was hunted by the pagan governor for being a Christian. Phocas showed hospitality to the men sent to kill him. They did not recognize him, and he let them stay the night. They offered to let him go, and tell the prince they could not find Phocas, but Phocas asked them to deliver him to the persecutor so that he could receive the crown of martyrdom. His relics became a source of comfort and miracles to the faithful, and in particular, he became a patron saint of sailors.
