Symeon the Stylite
$1.95
Saint Symeon was the first stylite in Christian history - a form of asceticism in which the saint lived on the top of a pillar, fasting, praying, and preaching. His example was later followed by other ascetics. His life, the first read in the church year, is not always the easiest to hear, as St. Symeon began his ascetic struggles with severe mortification of the flesh. The life of this remarkable saint is read by Francis Ackerman, whose voice listeners will recognize from the lives of St. George and St. Sergius.
