The Life of the Holy Prophet Jonah
$0.99
As a child, the holy prophet Jonah was raised from death by the prophet Elijah. (This story is told in the Bible, in 1 Kings 17:17-24, but Jonah's name is not mentioned there.) Later, Jonah was called by God to go to Nineveh, to preach repentance to that wicked and violent city. Jonah, afraid of the reception he would receive in Nineveh, took a ship for Tarshish (possibly the same city as Carthage) instead. A storm beset the ship, and the sailors cast lots to see who was to blame. Jonah drew the short lot, and told the sailors to throw him overboard. Jonah was swallowed by a whale, but he survived. He prayed in the belly of the whale, was cast up on land, and again called to preach repentance in Nineveh. His preaching was successful, and Nineveh repented, but Jonah did not welcome this. God then tried to persuade Jonah to accept Nineveh's reprieve.
