Catherine the Great Martyr
One of the best known and loved martyrs in Christian history, St. Catherine is the patron saint of thousands of Catherines, Ekaterinas, Katrinas, Katyas, and Kates the world over. Enduring psychological pressure and threatened with physical torture, she fearlessly defended her new-found faith, drawing on the writings of the ancients to overcome the most learned philosophers and rhetoricians of her day in debate to prove the divinity of Jesus Christ, for Whom she ultimately gave up her life.
In this life from the menology of St. Demetrius of Rostov, St. Catherine stands as a model of purity, meekness, and courage for all who value their Christianity above all else, who strive to be ready always to give an answer to every man concerning their faith.
