Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete - MP3 Download

$4.95 $9.95

Each year the season of Great Lent begins with the solemn chanting of the penitential canon of St. Andrew of Crete, who lived in the 7th–8th centuries. In this canon the reader recalls famous personages of the Old and New Testaments, comparing their lives to his own, and thus preparing himself for the great contest of the Holy Forty-day Fast.

This recording was made at St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Richmond, Maine, by the St. Alexander Nevsky Church Ensemble. The irmoi and refrains of the canon are sung, as are the other sung portions of Great Compline. There are five MP3 files—one each for the first four days of Great Lent, and one for Thursday of the fifth week, containing the Great Canon alone in its entirety.
