Lives of Saints

The Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, and Love,
and their Mother, Sophia
 and...
The Holy Protomartyr
and Equal-to-the-Apostles, Thecla

St. Sophia’s words to her children upon their confession of the faith: "My sweet children, do not allow yourselves to be deceived by the enemy’s allurements...rich presents, glory, honor, wealth...But love none of these things..for having suffered ...but a short while...you will rejoice forever."

St. Thecla is not only equal to, but a contemporary of the Apostles and close disciple of St. Paul. She was eighteen and engaged at the time of her conversion. She succumbed neither to parents nor princes nor torturers in their attempts to seduce her to return to paganism, and finally was miraculously delivered from a hideous fate.
Both Lives are from the Menology of St. Demetrius of Rostov. 65 minutes.

Our Holy Father Chariton the Confessor   and...
The Holy Great Martyr Eustathius Placidas
St. Chariton was a pilgrim to the Holy Land in the 3rd century after being almost martyred for his faith in the Balkans. While in the Holy Land, St. Chariton was miraculously preserved from a band of robbers and came to found several monasteries. One bears his name and is still inhabited by several monks.

St. Eustathius, together with his family, embrace the path of Christ, being tragically separated and then miraculously united in great joy.
Both lives are from the Menology of St. Dimitrius of Rostov.

The Life of St. Mary of Egypt
St. Mary has such a place in our Orthodox Tradition that her life is read in its entirety in Church during the reading of the Great Canon on the fifth Thursday in Great Lent. Her ascent by Divine Grace from the abyss of gross fornication to the spiritual heights of the greatest ascetics is especially edifying for us in this age of moral degradation.

Our Holy Mother Theodora of Alexandria,
the Nun, Who Struggled in the Guise of a Man
  and...
The Holy Virgin Martyrs Menodora, Metrodora
and Nymhpodora

St. Theodora sadly listened to the dark power of reason and committed unmentionable sins, but her conscience did not abandon her, but led her to a severe mercy: repentance in a monastery in the guise of a man. Loved by her ‘son’ and slandered by the brethren, her ultimate purity was discovered only after her repose.

The Holy Virgin Martyrs Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymhpodora, like the Holy Virgins Faith, Hope, and Love, faced the brutality of a government wholly opposed to the one true God. In their contest we benefit, seeing in their victory an icon of meekness and truth which strengthens our own souls.
Both lives are from the Menology of St. Dimitri of Rostov. 69 minutes.
